Our vision - The Originals Method

Our vision

The Method The Originals

Creation and Innovation :

The writer and producer are inseparable, and owe each other transparency and constant communication within a precise working framework. On the one hand, the artistic executive producer (the showrunner) is the project designer, co-author of the episodes and arbiter of the artistic aspects of the series' vision. He manages a Structured Writing Workshop (ADES) made up of episode authors and collaborating scriptwriters.
On the other hand, the executive producer's mission is to translate the written word into production, and is the guarantor of the brand. He works to ensure that the DNA of the program, series or brand is clearly understood and managed at every stage of development, right through to broadcast and exploitation.
Both people owe each other transparency, constant communication and coordination.

The production process

The writing room:

TOP experimented with, perfected and implemented this process, first with the company's initial eponymous project, The Oligarchs, then years later with the project created by Éric Rochant: The Office of Legends.
In order to produce one 10×52’ season per year, shot in France and abroad, Alex Berger and Éric Rochant have created a development and production system around the Atelier D'Écriture Structuré (ADES), headed by Éric Rochant as showrunner (artistic executive producer).

Structured writing workshop (ADES), France

At ADES, writing plays a central role. Producers, scriptwriters and, in particular, the showrunner (artistic executive producer), must work in complete harmony. The roles are strictly defined: the showrunner must be the guarantor of a successful creative end; the executive producer must ensure that the production serves the vision of the author, the creator; the line producer must be the guarantor of a successful legal-financial end. These three complementary roles require absolute trust and transparency.

A new organization

The particular case of Bureau des Légendes illustrates this point perfectly. Canal+'s Création Originale accepted, in a totally inseparable way, the original idea and artistic concept of author Éric Rochant, combined with the industrial method proposed by TOP - The Originals Productions and its co-producer Federation Entertainment: organization around a showrunner (artistic executive producer).

Industrial processes and brand management

Once the work has been delivered, broadcast and appropriated by the public, it becomes a brand. A brand with an emotional commitment, in which the public invests for 10 hours each season. It is linked to an imaginary world to which viewers have become attached, and which must be translated on social networks, abroad and in the various operations. In order to translate the DNA of this brand and preserve its own identity, the PMDC (Promotion - Marketing - Digital - Communication) division works to master every logo, poster, press release, image, derivative product, etc., from the development process through to broadcasting and beyond.

PMDC 360

TOP - The Originals Productions' vision is to marry French creativity and innovation with American industrial processes and brand management.
